In the month of December, we had celebrated World AIDS Day by way of spreading Awareness among the people of Mumbai.  We had organised workshops, Awareness Programmes, Puppet Shows, One Minute Game Show, at various places throughout Mumbai under our projects Slum Intervention Project, Palavi Projects for ‘A’, ‘E’, ‘G-South’ & ‘S’ Administrative wards of Mumbai.

 

The programme consists of Poster Exhibition, Pamphlet Distribution, One Minute Game Show, Puppet Show, Vocational Training, Information about Health related issues and HIV Awareness in general.

Activities on the eve of World AIDS Day

Abhijeet to start ‘New Life’:  Abhijeet Shinde, a resident of Mumbai's Ghatkopar suburb, has been presented Electronic Limb at the hands of our President Dr. Kirit Somaiya, during a programme arranged on the occasion of Birthday of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 25th December, 2007.

With the help of this electronic limb, Abhijeet can now stand on his own limbs, walk freely.  Abhijeet studying in Science stream could see a bright future now.

His parents, relatives, friends and well wishers were present on the occasion.

Yuvak Pratishthan’s Staff Training:  A two-days In house training of Yuvak Pratishthan Staff members jointly with its joint venture Jan Shikshan Sansthan Raigad and State Resource Centre Pune was held at Kihim, Taluka Alibag in the first week of December.

Training was arranged to motivate our staff members for streamline and efficiency in their office work as well as personal. The subject includes of Communication Skills, Stress Management, Team Building , Motivation & Participation, and Personality Development, Yoga and Interactive knowledgeable games.

Two days in-house training of Yuvak Pratishthan Staff Members at Kihim, Alibag.

JEEVAN AKSHAY (Seva Mobile): In the month of December, 3 camps were held at Ramabai Nagar, Bhandup. 398 patients were checked, guided and provided medicines. They were performed complete health check-up.  Table showing the number of patients attended in camps are given as under:

44 camps held in the month of December which includes 23 morning camps and 21 evening camps.  868 patients were performed complete check-up and given medicines.

SLUM SANITATION – ‘NIRMAL MMR ABHIYAN’: Last month we had mentioned that Yuvak Pratishthan has awarded and selected to construct toilet blocks.  Three more cities Panvel, Pen and Alibaug are added in the list for construction of toilet blocks.  The details are as under:

CENTRE FOR SLUM STUDIES: Following activities done during the month:

Full day Field visit was arranged on 19.12.07 at Karve Nagar, Kanjur marg, under MMRDA-ERM Project.  The visit includes 3 sites with 31 people.  The sites are: 1) Hotel Orchid-Jogeshwari, 2) Excel Industries-Vile Parle, 3) Nagri Niwara Parishad–Goregaon.

  “Environmental Games” for Children residing at Karvenagar, Kanjurmarg was arranged during 25.12.07 to 30.12.07, where 60 to 70 children of the locality were participated and benefited through knowledge of the environmental issues.  

 Drawing competition was arranged for children residing at Karve Nagar Kanjurmarg, where 36 Children were participated.

PALAVI  KENDRA : Ante-Natal Care (ANC) of the pregnant women mobilization in Four Administrative Wards of Greater Mumbai; 'A' ward, ‘E’ ward, 'G South' ward, and ‘S’ ward were covered during the month.

Our Out Reach Workers visited families in their respective wards, interacted with them and guided them about the health related problems.  They were counselled, guided and given proper guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and Family Planning.

Community meetings were held for Mahila Mandals, Health Posts, Beauty Parlor, Small Industries, Vyayamshala etc. The participants have been informed about Palavi Kendra.  IEC material and booklets for awareness distributed among them.

Few of the children are under regular follow-up of the organisation.

All the patients were treated with proper medication & counseling about their health related problems.  Pathological tests were done at very concessional rates.

We would like to inform that the centre has started X-ray and Sonography facility at very concessional rates.  Patients are requested to visit the centre to avail this facility on nominal charges.

JEEVAN AASHA :  This month, 58 patients visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha.  41 patients in all have received financial assistance this month from different Trusts for different ailments.  Others are under process.  Category of the patients / cases:

Besides, we have received more than 500 phone calls for enquiry / assistance during the month.

Patients for CT-Scan, MRI cases were forwarded to private institutions to be done at very concessional rates i.e. up to 60% & 50% discount respectively in their charges.

We are receiving regular appreciation and gratitude from the patients.

We express our heartiest gratitude to all the trusts / hospitals / doctors / social activists, for extending their support / help to the poor and needy patients for their surgery / treatment.

GTB HOSPITAL :  Motivation and empowerment of the patients continues with the techniques such as Music Therapy, Yoga, Diet and Nutrition, Vocational Training etc. for Rehabilitation of TB patients.

Every week around 30 patients, which includes both male & female have been attending and taking benefits of yoga every Monday.

We sincerely thanks, appreciate our co-workers for fulfilling their duties, and extending support in these activities.
