Dear Friends,

1 year completed / elapsed of the 11 July Mumbai Train Blast.  Various announcements, commitments were done by the State / Central Govt. / Railways to help all victims. It is observed that many of the victims are still struggling for Medical treatments, Artificial Limbs, Successive surgeries, hearing aids, etc.

Dr. Kirit Somaiya (Ex-Member of Parliament) & President Yuvak Pratishthan, is pursuing the matter since the beginning. Yuvak Pratishthan has started ‘Bomb Blast Claims – Help Centre’ on 12th July 2006.  The Center has been interacting with the victims at regular intervals to know the status of medical treatment, medical help required, medical expenses reimbursement, compensation from State Government / Railway, Filing of claims with the Railway Claims Tribunal, etc.

Last month Yuvak Pratishthan has conducted a survey of 100 grievously injured Victims / families, out of a total of 1077 victims, which includes 187 death and 890 injured to know the status of the victims / families’ relief & rehabilitation.  During survey the questions were asked for their rehabilitation / compensation / present status, claim settlement, etc.  Our volunteers visited the families and met personally with the questionnaire.  Out of 100 cases, it is observed that 53 cases received compensation from Railway & State Govt., 11 victims not yet received any compensation, 34 families filed claim with Railway Claim Tribunal, 6 persons got job in railways, 22 families found unemployed, 16 are yet under treatment, 2 patients are in comma, one at Jaslok Hospital and another at Hinduja Hospital.

Yuvak Pratishthan with the help of other organization is providing Hearing Aids to the blast victims. This month on 11 July, during a conference of the 11/7 Bomb Blast Victims, hearing aids were given to the blast victims at the hands of Hon. Lal Krishna Advani.

Hon’ble Advani encouraged us for such activities.  In his words - “I profusely compliment Yuvak Pratishthan headed by Dr. Kirit Somaiya, and all the other NGOs and public-spirited individuals who have taken up the cause of relief and rehabilitation of the victims as a patriotic mission. As a result of their tireless efforts and meticulous ground-level study of the condition of the victims, which I had brought to the attention of the Prime Minister, I am told that there has been a partial improvement in the official relief and rehabilitation work.”
