Since
the year 2001, Yuvak Pratishthan has been organizing Note-Book & School
Bag Distribution programme for the children of HIV +ve parents to support
their educational needs under one of our activity namely ‘Jeevan Aasara’.
These children are registered under this scheme. The scheme is to provide
with educational, medicinal & financial support to the negative children
of HIV +ve parents.
This
year the programme was arranged on 12 June 07, at Sion Hospital, Mumbai.
73 children along with their parents were present during the programme.
Dr. Medha Somaiya, Gen. Secretary, encouraged the children with her
inaugural speech to make planning for future ups & downs in one’s
livelihood. Distributions were done at the hands of Dr. Kirit Somaiya,
Dr. Yevlekar (Dean Sion Hospital), Dr. Dakshata Pandit (Head, PSM Dept.
Sion Hospital), Dr. Sohani (Head, Medicine Dept. Sion Hospital).
We
express our heartiest gratitude to the Donors Mr. Dilipbhai Shah and Mr.
Rameshbhai Parekh who have arranged note-books and Care Foundation for its
regular support for School Bags.
1 year completed / elapsed of the 11 July
Mumbai Train Blast.
In the month of June, Yuvak Pratishthan have conducted a survey of 100
grievously injured Victims / families, out of a total of 1077 victims,
which includes 187 death and 890 injured to know the status of the victims
/ families’ relief & rehabilitation.
Our
President, Dr. Kirit Somaiya (Ex-Member of Parliament), is pursuing the
matter since the beginning.
Various announcements, commitments were done by the State / Central Govt.
/ Railways to help all victims. It is observed that many of the victims
have not received full support for Medical treatments, Artificial Limbs,
Successive surgeries, hearing aids, etc.
During
survey the questions were asked for their rehabilitation / compensation /
present status, claim settlement, etc. Our volunteers visited the
families and met personally with the questionnaire. Out of 100 cases, it
is observed that 53 cases received compensation from Railway & State
Govt., 11 victims not yet received any compensation, 34 families filed
claim with Railway Claim Tribunal, 6 persons got job in railways, 22
families found unemployed, 16 are yet under treatment, 2 patients are in
comma, one at Jaslok Hospital and another at Hinduja Hospital.
PALAVI KENDRA :
Ante-Natal Care (ANC) of the pregnant women mobilization in
Four Administrative Wards of Greater Mumbai;
'A' ward, ‘E’ ward, 'G South' ward, and ‘S’ ward were covered during the
month. The project is awarded by Mumbai District AIDS Control
Society. Regular activities are as under:
‘A’
Ward
: During the month in this ward, our Out Reach Workers have visited to 587
families, which includes 483 male, 592 female, 552 male children, 495
female children, interacted with them, guided them about the health
related problems. 24 ANC cases found so far. 04 were mobilized and
referred to the Centre at St. George Hospital. No STD cases registered in
this ward.

community meetings were held this month for Mahila Mandals and Health
Posts. 55 members were attended. They were guided and informed about
Palavi Kendra.
‘G
South’ Ward
: Out Reach Workers have visited 5766 families, which includes 5470 male,
6136 female, 3934 male children, 3372 female children. They have been
benefited through one to one counseling. 93 ANC cases found, 8 were
mobilized among all. ANC cases referred to our centre at Prabhadevi
Maternity Home and ESI Hospital Worli. 3 STI cases and 1 HIV +ve case
registered among all.
4 community
meetings were held during the month with Mahila Mandals, where IEC
material and booklets for awareness distributed among them.
‘S’ Ward :
This month 3594 families have been visited
which includes 8752 male, 8079 female get benefited through one to one
counselling. 59 ANC cases registered in all. 8 have been mobilized and
referred to our centres at
Savitribai
Maternity Home & Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital. 2 male & 2 female
agreed for voluntary testing were referred to VCTC. 1 Tuberculosis
patient referred to RNTCP.
3 community
meetings were held during the month, which includes 1 Beauty Parlor, 1
Mahila Mandal and 1 Small Industry, where IEC material and booklets for
awareness distributed among them.
‘E’ Ward :
This month in ‘E’ Ward area, our Out Reach
Workers had direct interactions with 3776 families, which includes 8002
male and 7408 female. They were counselled, guided and given proper
guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and
Family Planning.
87 ANC
cases found, out of which 21 have been mobilized and referred to Nair
Hospital PPTCT Centre. 3 persons agreed for voluntary testing were
referred to VCTC, 3 were referred for ART treatment at Sion Hospital.
36 children
of the Centre were under regular follow-up of our organisation.

community meetings with Mahila Mandals, Beauty Parlor, Small Industry &
Vyayamshala were held during the month at the E ward centre. 49 members
were attended, guided and informed about Palavi Kendra.
Yuvak
Pratishthan’s Samarpan Arogya Kendra :
In the
month of June, a total of 1100 patients, which includes 267 new and 765
old patients for Allopathic treatment, 40 patients for Homeopathic
treatment and 28 patients were visited the centre for Pathological tests.
They were treated with proper medication & counseling about their health
related problems. Pathological tests were done at very concessional
rates.
Mobile
General Check–up camps
continues this month. 2 camps held in Mankhurd suburban area of
Mumbai. 7 patients were performed complete check-up and given medicines.
We request the citizen of Mulund, Bhandup and all nearby areas to visit
the centre and take benefits of all the medication / health related
problems from our centre.
JEEVAN
AKSHAY (Seva Mobile) : In the month of May, 10 camps were held at both the centres at
Kamraj Nagar and Ramabai Nagar. 295 beneficiaries were checked, guided and
provided medicines. They were performed complete health check-up.

In all, 3 STI patients found which includes 2 at Ramabai Nagar and 1 at
Kamraj Nagar centre. The
patients guided and referred for further treatment and care.
Health Camp for Rag pickers :
Two Health Check-up camps organized in the month of May for Rag Pickers at
our centre at Yuvak Pratishthan’s Samarpan Arogya Kendra Mulund, which
includes complete check-up and medication for more than 100 rag pickers,
who are registered with the centre.
JEEVAN
AASHA :
This
month, 61 patients visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha.
44 patients in all have received financial assistance this month from
different Trusts for different ailments. Others are under process.
Category of the patients / cases: Cancer 10, Heart 14, Kidney 01, Brain
00, General 24, Enquiry 12.
Besides, we have received more than 1000 phone calls for enquiry /
assistance during the month.

Patients screened for CT-Scan, 2MRI cases & 2 pathological tests were
forwarded to private institutions to be done at very concessional rates
i.e. up to 60% & 50% discount respectively in their charges.
We are
receiving regular appreciation and gratitude from the patients.
We would
like to mention here a case of Mast. Sagar Virkayade, 6 yrs old child, of
Shyam Nagar, Bhandup, who had undergone for successful major surgery free
of cost done at Sion Hospital with the help of donor Smt. Bharatiben
Kumar, URO Foundation, Mumbai. The
family hails from very poor family and was unable to bear the cost of
surgery.
We would
like to express our heartiest gratitude and thanks to the URO Foundation
for extending their full financial support / help to perform the surgery.
SLUM
INTERVENTION PROJECT : Bhandup ‘S’ ward NGO Forum meeting was organized at BTVM
Hall, Bhandup (W) on 29th June. People Living with HIV / AIDS
and Stakeholders from the project area of each NGO were present for the
meeting. Around 30 PLHA & 04 Stakeholders were attended the meeting.
Chirag Foundation, Karunya Trust, VKM, NPM+ and Yuvak Pratishthan actively
participated in the meeting. Discussions were done on various problems
faced by PLHA to approach govt. schemes and the fulfillment of required
documents was the main agenda of the meeting. Accordingly experiences
faced by the PLHAs were shared. Finally it was decided that a format for
identification of their status required documents have to be finalized for
further action and approach.
29 male and
2 female High Risk Youths were counseled for risk reduction. 4 male and 1
female patients referred to VCTC. 1901 free condoms distributed through
outlets, one-one, one-group, peers etc. 366 pamphlets distributed, 16
stickers, 5 posters, 1 banner were placed to the target population.
All the
regular activities, One to One, One to Group Sessions, Condom Promotion &
Distribution, Tertiary Visit, Secondary Visit, Video Shows, Lectures,
Posters Exhibitions, Establishment of Condom Outlets, Treatment and
Follow-up of STD patients, have been continued.
GTB
HOSPITAL
:
Motivation and empowerment of the patients continues with the
techniques such as Music Therapy, Yoga, Diet and Nutrition, Vocational
Training etc. for Rehabilitation of TB patients.
Every
week 15-20 patients, which includes both male & female have been attending
and taking benefits of yoga every Monday.
VALMIKI
AMBEDKAR MALIN BASTI AWAS YOJANA (VAMBAY) :

houses completed so far and handed over to the room owner during a
programme conducted on 2nd May in presence of Dr. Kirit Somaiya,
Ex-Member of Parliament & President Yuvak Pratishthan, MLA Sardar Tarasing,
Municipal Councilor Mr. Manoj Kotak, local leaders and the residents of
the Gautam Nagar, Dumping Road, Mulund (W).
SLUM SANITATION
:
Follow
up continues for the sites, required papers are being collected and
process for the registration of Mandals is going on.
Construction of toilets is in progress at 12 sites. The sites are
regularly visited by our volunteers.
We are
receiving good responses from the locality. We will be happy to help some
more localities to provide with the same facility. We are continuous
