Dear Friends,

8 March 2008 - Dr. Medha Somaiya (Ph.D.), our Gen. Secretary, was felicitated by Hon. Mayor of Mumbai Dr. Shubha Raul during a ceremony organised by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on the eve of World Women's Day on 8th March for her dedication in social field since last 25 years for upliftment of the downtrodden people of slums in Mumbai.  She has done her research study on Slums in Mumbai and now running a Centre for Slum Studies, affiliated to University of Mumbai , at Ruia College .

In other activities, this month we have arranged ' Plantation Drive ' under National Environment Awareness Campaign 2007-08 sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest , Govt. of India, on 28th March.  We have planted 20 nos. of trees under this drive.  Dr. Kirit Somaiya, Dr. Medha Somaiya, the Staff Members of Yuvak Pratishthan and other local residents were present during the programme.

JEEVAN AKSHAY (Seva Mobile): In the month of March, 4 camps were held at Ramabai Nagar, Bhandup. 148 patients were checked, guided and provided medicines. They were performed complete health check-up.  Table showing the number of patients attended in camps are given as under:

MOBILE GENERAL CHECK–UP CAMPS: Regular mobile camps continued daily 4 camps through two mobile vans at different areas of Mumbai suburbs.

96 camps held in the month of February which includes 54 morning and 42 evening camps.  2180 patients were performed complete check-up and given medicines.  Click here for date-wise camps details.

We request the citizen of all nearby areas to visit the centre and take benefits of all the medication / health related problems.

SLUM SANITATION – ‘NIRMAL MMR ABHIYAN’: Work-order received for different sites.  'Bhoomi pujan' done and the work started. Regular follow-ups, contacts with City Municipal Offices and local leaders, site identification / survey etc. continue this month.

CENTRE FOR SLUM STUDIES: This month the Centre has arranged Arranged Field visits at Dry Waste Organization Centre Sewri & Nagri Niwara Parishad Goregaon for MAJAS and ANIK Peers ERM Project (MMRDA), where 60 candidates were participated.

PALAVI  KENDRA : Ante-Natal Care (ANC) of the pregnant women mobilization in Four Administrative Wards of Greater Mumbai; 'A' ward, ‘E’ ward, 'G South' ward, and ‘S’ ward were covered during the month.

Our Out Reach Workers visited families in their respective wards, interacted with them and guided them about the health related problems.  They were counselled, guided and given proper guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and Family Planning.

Community meetings were held for Mahila Mandals, Health Posts, Beauty Parlor, Small Industries, Vyayamshala etc. The participants have been informed about Palavi Kendra.  IEC material and booklets for awareness distributed among them.

Few of the children are under regular follow-up of the organisation.

All the patients were treated with proper medication & counseling about their health related problems.  Pathological tests were done at very concessional rates.

We would like to inform that the Mulund centre has started X-ray and Sonography facility at very concessional rates.  Patients are requested to visit the centre to avail this facility on nominal charges.

JEEVAN AASHA :  This month, 80 patients visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha.  52 patients in all have received financial assistance this month from different Trusts for different ailments.  Others are under process.  Category of the patients / cases:
