Dear Friends,

11 months completed / elapsed of the 11 July Mumbai Train Blast.  This month, we have conducted a survey of 100 grievously injured Victims / families, out of a total of 1077 victims, which includes 187 death and 890 injured.

Various announcements, commitments were done by the State / Central Govt. / Railways to help all victims. It is found that many of the victims have not received full support for Medical treatments, Artificial Limbs, Successive surgeries, hearing aids, etc.

During survey the questions were asked for their rehabilitation / compensation / present status, claim settlement, etc.  Our volunteers visited the families and met personally with the questionnaire.  Out of 100 cases, it is observed that 53 cases received compensation from Railway & State Govt., 11 victims not yet received any compensation, 34 families filed claim with Railway Claim Tribunal, 6 persons got job in railways, 22 families found unemployed, 16 are yet under treatment, 2 patients are in comma, one at Jaslok Hospital and another at Hinduja Hospital.

PALAVI  KENDRA : ANC mobilization in Four Administrative Wards of Greater Mumbai; 'A' ward, ‘E’ ward, 'G South' ward, and ‘S’ ward were covered during the month.  The projects are awarded by Mumbai District AIDS Control Society.  Regular activities are as under:

‘A’ Ward : During the month in this ward, our Out Reach Workers have visited to 1843 families, which includes 1501 male, 1714 female, 1556 male children, 1433 female children, interacted with them, guided them about the health related problems.  82 ANC cases found so far.  41 were mobilized and referred to the Centre at St. George Hospital . 3 STD cases registered and referred for further treatment and care.

5 community meetings were held this month, for Mahila Mandals and Health Posts. 70 members were attended.  They were guided and mobilized.

‘G South’ Ward : Out Reach Workers have visited 8408 families, which includes 7836 male, 9237 female, 6812 male children, 5372 female children.  They all have been benefited through one to one counseling.  177 ANC cases found, 9 were mobilized among all.  ANC cases referred to our centre at Prabhadevi Maternity Home and ESI Hospital Worli. 

4 community meetings were held during the month with Mahila Mandals, where IEC material and booklets for awareness distributed among them.

‘S’ Ward :  This month 1261 families have been visited which includes 6093 male, 5036 female get benefited through one to one counselling.  79 ANC cases found in all.  28 have been mobilized and referred to our centres at Savitribai Maternity Home & Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital .  9 persons agreed for voluntary testing referred to VCTC.  No cases of Tuberculosis found this month.

4 numbers of meetings was held during the month with Anganwadi Mahila Mandals, where IEC material and booklets for awareness distributed among them.

‘E’ Ward :  This month in ‘E’ Ward area, our Out Reach Workers had direct interactions with 4525 families, which includes 9102 male and 9366 female.  They were counselled, guided and given proper guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and Family Planning.

116 ANC cases found, out of which 22 have been mobilized and referred to Nair Hospital PPTCT Centre. 1 case of Candidacies have been referred to STD Centres. 1 female referred to DIC, 1 referred for ART treatment.  4 STD cases all female, 1 Tuberculosis male were found.

36 children of the Centre were under regular follow-up of our organisation.

6 community meetings with Mahila Mandals and Health posts were held during the month at the E ward centre. 75 members were attended, guided and mobilized.

Yuvak Pratishthan’s Samarpan Arogya Kendra In the month of May, a total of 647 patients, which includes 243 new and 404 old, visited the centre and benefited through allopathic treatment & medication.  21 patients treated with homeopathic. 39 patients visited for pathological tests were done at very concessional rates.

Mobile General Check–up camps continues this month.  6 camps held Mulund area at Mulund Colony and Dumping Road .  115 patients were performed complete check-up and given medicines. 

We request the citizen of Mulund, Bhandup and all nearby areas to visit the centre and take benefits of all the medication / health related problems from our centre.

JEEVAN AKSHAY (Seva Mobile) : In the month of May, 10 camps were held at both the centres at Kamraj Nagar and Ramabai Nagar. 295 beneficiaries were checked, guided and provided medicines. In all, 3 STI patients found which includes 2 at Ramabai Nagar and 1 at Kamraj Nagar centre.  The patients guided and referred for further treatment and care.

Health Camp for Rag pickers :  Four Health Check-up camps organized in the month of May for Rag Pickers in Mulund, which includes complete check-up and medication for more than 100 rag pickers ladies in the locality. 

On 4th May, 16 rag-pickers attended, where 7 are benefited through medication and 9 others are for enquiry only. On 11th May, 19 rag-pickers attended which includes 5 regular patients and others are for enquiry only. On 18th May, 29 were present and on 25th May, 6 new patients were attended and benefited through medication and checkup.

JEEVAN AASHA :  This month, 70 patients visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha.  95 patients in all have received financial assistance this month from different Trusts for different ailments.  Others are under process.  Category of the patients / cases: Cancer 16, Heart 12, Kidney 01, Brain 01, General 32, Enquiry 08. 

Besides, we have received more than 1000 phone calls for enquiry / assistance during the month.

2 Patients screened for CT-Scan & 3 MRI cases forwarded to private institutions to be done at very concessional rates i.e. up to 60% & 50% discount respectively in their charges.

We are receiving regular appreciation and gratitude from the patients.

We would like to mention here a case of Mast. Sagar Virkayade, 6 yrs old child, of Shyam Nagar, Bhandup, who had undergone for successful major surgery free of cost done at Sion Hospital with the help of donor Smt. Bharatiben Kumar, URO Foundation, Mumbai. The family hails from very poor family and was unable to bear the cost of surgery. 

SLUM INTERVENTION PROJECT :  Two BCC events organised during the month, at Bhandup, which includes the information about health and gynaec problem as well as awareness about HIV / AIDS, TB, STD / STI, and condom promotion etc.  

NGO Forum meeting was held at our BTVM Centre, Mulund. A team of the consumers formed during the meeting.  20 names each were given by the NGOs. Representatives of all the Bhandup based NGOs were present in the meeting. 

Surprise visit was done on 29th May, by Mr. Rajesh Kapse of Avert Society and checked MTR, Daily Register and work files, guided the staff for preparing MTR and solved their queries.

All the regular activities, One to One, One to Group Sessions, Condom Promotion & Distribution, Tertiary Visit, Secondary Visit, Video Shows, Lectures, Posters Exhibitions, Establishment of Condom Outlets, Treatment and Follow-up of STD patients, have been continued.

GTB HOSPITAL Motivation and empowerment of the patients continues with the techniques such as Music Therapy, Yoga, Diet and Nutrition, Vocational Training etc. for Rehabilitation of TB patients.

Every week 15-20 patients, which includes both male & female have been attending and taking benefits of yoga every Monday.

VALMIKI AMBEDKAR MALIN BASTI AWAS YOJANA (VAMBAY) :  16 houses completed so far and handed over to the room owner during a programme conducted on 2nd May in presence of Dr. Kirit Somaiya, Ex-Member of Parliament & President Yuvak Pratishthan, MLA Sardar Tarasing, Municipal Councilor Mr. Manoj Kotak, local leaders and the residents of the Gautam Nagar, Dumping Road, Mulund (W).

SLUM SANITATIONWork Order received for 4 sites in the month of May for Shivgarjana Sahakari Shejar Samiti, Rahul Nagar, Ram Nagar, Vikhroli Parksite, Sai Sewa Samitee, Kamraj Nagar, Nav Buddha Vihar, Vasantrao Naik Nagar, Ghatkopar (E), Shivdeep Chawl Rahivashi andal, Shivkrupa Nagar Kanjurmarg (E) and Navtarun Samajik Mitra Mandal, Munshi Mahal, Bhandup (W). 

Bhoomi Pujan of the above two sites of Kanjurmarg and Bhandup have been done this month in presence of Dada Pisal (Ex-corporator), Bharati Pisal (Corporator), Rajbhai Paradkar (Corporator), Anand Jagtap (BMC), Manorama Patil (Ex-corporator), Local Leaders and residents. 

Follow up continues for the other sites, required papers are being collected and process for the registration of Mandals is going on.  

Construction of toilets is in progress at 12 sites.  The sites are regularly visited by our volunteers.
