One area where Yuvak Pratishthan has really concentrated is Apana Shauchalaya. This project is undertaken for the better sanitation to the people living in slums and hutments with BMC support. Yuvak Pratishthan is the trend setter in rehabilitation and development of slums.

Apana Shauchalaya (Feb 2001 to till date):

Target Group : Slum Population

Objective : To build the sanitation facilities with the help of slum population under the World Bank Project.

Strategies :

1.
Motivating CBOs to involve.
2.
Awareness through Group Meetings
3.
Involvement of people by self contribution for maintenance of toilets.

Evaluation Method & Results:

Observation by BMC officials and probing of people shows that people come forward for any good projects and they are also ready to contribute for any governmental project where they will get benefitted.

Main Outcome :
All MPs from Mumbai stopped giving funds for Toilet Building and asked people to come under this scheme.

Individual Toilets

With improvement in the earning levels of individual slums dwellers especially in' Chawl' like dwellings there is urge for a sanitation system which is more hygienic, efficient and cost effective as well as catering to privacy of dwellers. No other option than 'Individual Toilets' can come closer to meets all these requirements. Though people have desire and small amount of money to construct individual toilets, they face hurdles due to infrastructure to be made available by the local body and permissions involved. There is enormous potential and demand for individual toilets which has remained untapped so far. Yuvak Pratishthan has been in the fore front in tapping this potential.

This Unique concept has received overwhelming response after initial demonstration project at Tulshet Pada and ongoing work at Chhatrapati Nagar at Asalpha.

Special Features of Individual Toilets:

Environment Friendliness.
Cost Effective.
Hygienic.
Efficient.
Caters to Privacy.
Better Ultimate Disposal.
